Steel & Pipe Supply, a leading carbon steel distributor serving the Midwest and beyond, has made a major investment in energy independence with large-scale rooftop solar installations at multiple locations. Their first solar project, a 1.4 MW rooftop system in New Century, Kansas, was completed in 2022 and remains the largest rooftop solar array in Kansas. The success of that project, which earned them a Gold-Level Sustainability Award from the Kansas City Industrial Council (KCIC), led Steel & Pipe Supply to expand their solar commitment to two additional sites in Oklahoma—Fort Gibson Road and Bird Creek Avenue—totaling an additional 2.2 MW of solar capacity.
The Kansas installation alone saves the company over $100,000 annually in energy costs and will generate more than $4.5 million in lifetime savings. Their new Oklahoma projects, completed in February 2025, will further strengthen their ability to control energy costs while reducing their environmental footprint. Across all locations, their solar investments will offset over 58,000 metric tons of CO₂ emissions—the equivalent of taking thousands of cars off the road for an entire year.
For manufacturers with high energy demands, solar is a proven strategy to hedge against rising utility rates, improve operational efficiency, and enhance sustainability efforts. Steel & Pipe Supply’s decision to expand its solar footprint reinforces its leadership in efficiency, cost savings, and environmental responsibility—ensuring they remain a trusted resource for steel products for years to
