Souder & Sons

In 2014, Souder & Sons, a family-owned hog farm in Rudd, Iowa, needed a cost-effective way to power their new hog barn. Partnering with Artisun Solar, they installed a 47-kilowatt (KW) rooftop solar system built to provide reliable energy for decades.

Over 10 years later, the system still produces energy at peak performance, standing up to Iowa’s harsh winters, dust, and continuous energy demands. Combined with revenue from selling excess power back to Heartland Power, the farm has cut total electricity costs by 57.7%.

This project demonstrates that commercial solar for agricultural facilities is a long-term, 30-year investment, delivering sustained energy savings and strengthening the bottom line.

Souder & Sons

Kirk Kreisel and his Artisun crew were nothing short of professional, timely fun to work with. They paid great attention to detail, corrected a couple early glitches in quick fashion and conscientiously assured proper system operation during and after installation. Artisun Solar is a straightforward and honest business. We are very happy with the system - when the sun shines, the fans run to keep hogs temperate and the PV system responds generously and effectively. It works great on a hog barn! Thank you Artisun Solar!
