Raptor Recycle & Transfer

Raptor Recycle & Transfer is more than the largest transfer station in the Kansas City metro area; it’s redefining what waste management can do to turn environmental responsibility into real results. With forward-thinking leadership and a commitment to green technology, the company is tackling today’s waste challenges with efficient, sustainable solutions.

From day one, Raptor designed its facility with solar in mind. Their green initiative goes beyond panels on the roof: trash never touches the ground thanks to a streamlined transfer method, while electric-powered cranes sort material into 20 bays where trailers wait to haul it away. Adding solar power with Artisun Solar was the natural next step in building a facility that works smarter and cleaner.

“Not only are we saving CO2 emissions from utilizing electric equipment, now we’re using the sun to power that equipment, which is fantastic,” said Steve Tucker, President of Raptor Recycle & Transfer.

The 150-kilowatt rooftop solar system was made possible through federal solar tax credits and accelerated depreciation. Over its 30-year lifespan, it will offset more than 3,700 tons of CO2 and save nearly $900,000 in electric costs—a powerful testament to Raptor’s forward-thinking mindset.

Raptor Recycle & Transfer

“Solar really goes with our clean green initiative and what we're trying to do to solve a modern problem with modern solutions. Solar panels for us make sense and were always in our design in our building. Not only are we saving CO2 emissions from utilizing electric equipment, now we're using the sun to power that equipment, which is fantastic. Artisun Solar designed us a quality-size system that gives us our demand without being over-built. The Artisun Solar team did a good job of understanding what we were trying to achieve. From start to finish and even going forward, we're really excited about the solar array that we were able to add and the ROI it's going to provide for the business.”
