MegaKC

MegaKC is an ESOP company in Kansas City, Missouri, where long-term decisions directly impact employee-owners. When evaluating capital projects, the question is not only cost, but durability and predictability. That context drove the decision to install a 242-panel rooftop solar system with Artisun Solar.

The 100 kW DC system now supplies more than half of the facility’s annual electricity needs, reducing exposure to utility volatility while supporting steady operating costs. The project was enabled in part by a federal ESOP tax credit, aligning financial incentives with the company’s ownership structure.

In the first year of operation, the system generated $12,774 in electricity savings. Over its lifetime, total savings are projected to reach $572,256. Based on current output and incentives, the system reached payback in 6.7 years.

Vice President of Operations, MegaKC

We have a fiduciary responsibility to our ESOP. With the tax credits and the $12,000 a year we will be saving in electric bills, it was a clear choice that we needed to do it. It was almost like Artisun Solar was behind the eight ball from the start because we have to make good, sound decisions for our ESOP.
