Judson Vos Hog Farm

Running a modern farm means your ventilation, heating, and automated feed systems run around the clock. That constant demand adds up on your utility bill. Solar energy was the clear choice to lock in predictable energy costs. It meant Iowa-based hog farmer Judson Vos could stop absorbing utility rate increases year after year.

Vos partnered with Artisun Solar to install a 42.8 kW (DC) ground-mount solar system at his hog farm in Sully, IA. The system uses 106 panels and delivers 26.9 kW (AC) of output. It saves $4,574 annually in electrical costs. Over the system’s 40+ year lifetime, it’s expected to save nearly $200,000.

The payback period sits at just 2.1 years, which means the system pays for itself in a little over two seasons and produces savings for decades afterwards.
