Botkin Lumber Company in Taylorville, IL, took a proactive approach to managing energy by investing in on-site solar power. For a facility with steady electricity demand, generating power in-house offered both cost control and long-term stability.
Artisun Solar designed and installed a 101.3 kW (DC) commercial rooftop solar system consisting of 247 solar panels, delivering 66.6 kW (AC) output to match the facility’s energy needs. The system now provides 100% energy offset, significantly reducing dependence on Ameren Illinois and improving energy cost predictability.
In its first year of operation, the system generated approximately $19,595 in electricity savings, with projected lifetime savings of $877,787 and a rapid payback period of just 1.4 years. Financial performance was strengthened through available incentives, including the federal solar tax credit, SMART inverter rebate, and accelerated depreciation benefits.
Beyond financial impact, the system offsets approximately 2,239.1 metric tons of CO₂ emissions, supporting Botkin Lumber Company’s sustainability goals and reducing its overall environmental footprint.
