Hailing from Overland Park, Kansas, Johnson County Community College offers a wide array of programs to students ranging from business to cosmetology to art. JCCC’s students also enjoy the benefits of a specialized career development program and one-on-one academic counseling. JCCC is committed to creating a sustainable academic experience by keeping tuition affordable for students. But with its fourth solar array project installed by Artisun Solar, Johnson County Community College is also doubling down on sustaining its business and ability to serve students for decades to come.
One 300kWh solar PV array was installed at the college library, and another 70kWh array was installed at the student center. The combined estimated first year kWh production of both projects is 442,659kWh and is expected to deliver significant savings and positive environmental impacts. The projects will create an estimated lifetime energy production of 12,101,741kWhs, and is predicted to produce the equivalent of 10,446 acres of forest planted in one year. The new projects will help JCCC save thousands of dollars on their electricity bills while helping it meet its environmental sustainability goals.
When asked how working with Artisun Solar was for a fourth time, JCCC’s Sustainability Project Manager Michael Rea reported that the experience was positive. A former JCCC solar project Artisun Solar is particularly proud of is the array installed at the college’s Industrial Training Center, which features a trellis addition that provides more space for solar panels. Artisun Solar is honored to continue its close relationship with JCCC by helping this important Kansas City educational institution thrive well into the future.
